As we know, Superintendent Alberto Carvalho is leaving his position with Miami Dade Public Schools on Feb 3rd. The school board is on a fast track to hiring a replacement before his last day by opening the superintendent position to candidates with a 7-day application window. This Decision by the school board doesn’t provide the opportunity for the public to be involved and informed in the process of picking the most crucial position in Miami Dade’s Education system. MDCPS is the 4th largest school district in the nation and needs a representative that can understand the needs of our students, teachers, and parents within the area. “The MDCPS Superintendent manages a more than $7 billion budget, directs academic and operational priorities, and offers solutions to the complex issues facing our students and educators today.” Such responsibility should require an intensive process, not a 7-day window.
The community deserves to have a voice in selecting the next leader of our city’s public education system.
We stand in solidarity with P.S. 305 with the following demands:

*Note: The meeting will begin at 1 PM. They will move on the regular agenda. The current agenda appears to be very short–so they may try to move the public hearing up early (usually it begins in the evening). However, a public hearing shall not conclude before 4:30 PM or begin later than 6:30 PM. Therefore, please plan to arrive at the School Board Administration Building (1450 NE 2nd Ave) before 4:30 PM (or as soon as you can) with a picture ID and mask. Otherwise, use this link to tune in virtually at 1:00 PM.
